ABOUT BIOTECHNOLOGY



People who love science are often faced with the dilemma of choosing a specialization. But what are you supposed to do if you cannot just pick one area of interest? Biotechnology is utilizing the sciences of biology, chemistry, physics, engineering, computers, and information technology to develop tools and products that hold great promise and concern. In most general sense, Biotechnology refers to the use of living organisms (or their products) for our benefit. It includes manipulation of organisms on the molecular and genetic level to improve health, safety, nutrition and the environment.

Pattern of Entrance Examination The question paper for the Entrance Examination will be of three hours duration and divided into two parts:
Part A Will have multiple choice type questions at the level of 10+2. This part will have 60 questions from
Biology (30 questions),
Physics (10 questions),
Chemistry (10 questions)and
Math (10 questions).
Total marks for Part A will be 60 questions x 1 mark each = 60 marks. There will be negative marking and for each wrong answer, 1/2 (half) mark will be deducted.
Part B Will also have multiple-choice questions of Bachelors level requiring thinking and analysis. There will be
20 questions from Physics
10 questions from Mathematics,
50 questions from Biology and
20 questions from Chemistry.
The candidates will be required to attempt 60 questions. Total marks for Part B will be 60 questions x 3 marks each = 180 marks. There will be negative marking and one mark for each wrong answer will be deducted.
